Our Top 5 Reasons to Pick up Those Weights Girls!

The rack of weights in the gym can sometimes appear a bit daunting but there's a lot to be gained!

Weight Training can be More Effective Fat Loss

Are you thinking weightlifting only benefits those who want gigantic muscles? Think again... !

We have all heard those awful horror stories; lifting heavy weights make women bulky, it's too dangerous, it's bad for your joints and once you have muscle, you can't stop lifting or it will all turn to fat - it's not true!

Many people think weightlifting only means to add size and get bulky when compared to cardiovascular exercise, but did you know resistance training actually comes out on top in the battle to burn more calories and loose fat!

The substantial advantage to weight training is your body's ability to burn fat during and after exercise which is called the afterburn effect

More Muscle = More Calorie Expenditure

During your weight training or Body Pump class, you will start to increase strength, lean muscle and your body will start to use calories more efficiently. The more muscle contractions you experience during a day, the more calories you will burn; if you are carrying more lean muscle mass you will then have more muscle contractions which therefore burn more calories!

Increased Energy

Resistance training causes a rise in energy expenditure hours and hours after you train, this long lasting increase of energy outflow, even after a minimal resistance training session, will affect energy balance and fat oxidation

Healthy Heart

Pumping iron can reduce your risk of heart disease; those who lift weights are less likely have heart disease risk factors, such as a larger waist circumference, high triglycerides, elevated blood pressure, and elevated glucose levels.

Healthy Bones

As the human body ages we are at risk of losing both bone and muscle mass. Postmenopausal women are at a greater risk for osteoporosis because the body no longer conceals estrogen. Resistance training, weight lifting, our Body Pump and HIIT classes are all excellent ways to combat loss of bone and muscle mass which subsequently decreases the risk of osteoporosis

So come on ladies don’t we all want to feel stronger feel more determined and confident?

From fitting into your favorite jeans, to playing with your kids and dealing with a stressful career, resistance training can benefit you in all aspects of your life!
