Devon Active Villages Programme going from Strength-to-Strength

The Devon Active Villages programme, co-ordinated by LED's Outreach Manager Mike Anderton, has begun successfully in both pilot villages.

In Feniton, over 30 children attended Street Dance lessons, 45 attended Athletics training and 24 enjoyed a spot of Tag Rugby. All activities took place at the primary school.

Over in Lympstone, the Cycling Club is working in collaboration with Devon County Council to provide instructors for attendees and work is underway with the Youth Club.

Join in with National 'walk 4 life' Day in Ottery St Mary

Join the East Devon 'Walk This Way' team and 'walk 4 life' on Sunday 26th September. All ages and abilities are invited to meet at Ottery Sports Centre, Cadhay Lane, at 2.30pm for a 1-3 mile guided walk, followed by refreshments.

Sidmouth's BRAND NEW GYM EQUIPMENT arrives 3rd Sept!

Sidmouth gym is enjoying a complete equipment replacement and redecoration. Brand new Technogym cardio vascular machines and resistance stations are currently being installed, and the refit will bring some of the most innovative fitness equipment to Sidmouth.

Along with the usual mix of bikes, treadmills and cross trainers, the gym will offer two of Technogym’s latest models, the Wave and the Crossover. Four of the new CV pieces will also include built-in TV screens, allowing the exerciser to catch up on the news whilst working out.

Technogym are one of the leading brands in the commercial fitness equipment market, and the official 2012 Olympics supplier.

New customers are invited to use the new gym from 20th September, and existing customers are advised to book a refresher induction before this so that they can be familiarised with the new equipment.

Exmouth Tennis & Leisure Centre Achieves National Recognition

The Tennis Foundation has awarded the Exmouth Tennis & Leisure Centre full ‘Beacon’ status, in recognition of their high quality, affordable community tennis programmes.

Exmouth Tennis & Leisure Centre was selected by the Tennis Foundation for the accolade along with 39 other Beacon sites across the country. It is one of the first community sites to achieve the status, which recognises the best community-focused facilities, as part of AEGON Parks Tennis.

'Walk This Way' Scheme Achieves Natural England Accreditation

EAST Devon’s popular ‘Walk This Way’ scheme has gained Natural England Accreditation. The scheme, which encourages people of all ages and abilities to walk for their health, was awarded the status in recognition of its high standard of guided health walks.

Leisure East Devon (LED) introduced the ‘Walk This Way’ scheme in 2001, and now offers four health walks per week in the Exmouth, Axe Valley and Sid Valley areas. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to come along, and anyone interested should contact Andrew Dare, the walk manager, on: 01404 814317, or e-mail otterysportscentre@ledleisure.co.uk.

LED Joined Exmouth's Beach at the Devon County Show

Leisure East Devon joined Team Exmouth at the Devon County Show 2010. The atmosphere amongst all the exhibitors was vibrant, made all the better for the sun, which shone down all weekend.

LED brought a performance by Centre Stage, exercise by Body Combat and mini Tri-Golf to the the Team's beach, but the highlight of the three days - Exmouth's Mayor Darryl Nicholas taking on (and beating) East Devon's MP Hugo Squire in LED's Wii tennis tournament!!

Join LED at the Devon County Show

Showcasing the very best of Exmouth’s leisure facilities, Leisure East Devon will be bringing song, dance, exercise and sport to Team Exmouth at this year's Devon County Show.

Representing the town’s Swimming & Leisure Centre, Tennis Centre, Pavilion and Phear Park Golf, LED will be giving visitors the chance to taste all four of its fantastic facilities. Along with spot prizes, competitions and of course, lots of visitor participation, there’s also the chance to take on tennis ace Jo Louis. Fresh back from representing Great Britain in the ITF Senior World Championships, the game is on to beat her!

FUN Waterwalkerz Sessions at Sidmouth Swimming Pool

 

If you thought walking on water was an impossibility then think again!! At Sidmouth Pool you can walk, run, tumble and laugh your way to fitness on the water in our fantastic new inflatable waterwalkerz. These are large inflatable balls which you can climb inside and run on water... but you'd better practice because its not that easy!! Inbetween running and standing you'll find yourself bouncing around inside as the ball splashes around in the water. You will be completely dry inside the ball, except maybe for the tears of laughter. This really is hilarious fun! Waterwalkers are a fantastic new addition to our weekend programme!

Saturdays 4pm - 5pm & Sundays 2pm - 3pm and 4pm - 5pm at a cost of £2.50 per Person, plus your normal swim fee.

The New gym has new state of the art equipment, with built in touchscreen displays.

The Equipment has been specially designed to benefit racquet sport fans, focusing on sports mobility, toning and floor work.

Jo Louis, manager of Exmouth Tennis and Leisure Centre, said: "As a former tennis player myself, I know how important it is to work on your general fitness and muscle tone as well as practising your shots and tactics.
With the installation of the gym, the centre has been transformed into a 'total tennis experience'."
